Shortcut keys for windows, menus, toolbars, dialog boxes, and text boxes

These shortcuts are standard for Microsoft Windows, so they should work with any version of any application in MS Office.

Keys for menus

You can use keystrokes to select any command on the menu bar. Press ALT to activate the menu bar. Press the letter that is underlined in a menu name to pull that menu down. In the menu that appears, press the letter that is underlined in a command name to execute the command.

Display a shortcut menu

SHIFT-F10

Display the program icon menu (on the program title bar)

ALT-SPACEBAR

Activate the next or previous command on the menu or submenu

DOWN ARROW or UP ARROW (with the menu or submenu displayed)

Activate the menu to the left or right; or, with a submenu visible, switch between the main menu and the submenu

LEFT ARROW or RIGHT ARROW

Activate the first or last command on a menu or submenu

HOME or END

Close the visible menu and submenu at the same time

Keys for toolbars

You can use keystrokes to select any command on a visible toolbar. To select a command from a visible toolbar, press ALT to activate the menu bar, then CTRL-TAB to activate a toolbar. If necessary, keep pressing CTRL-TAB until you activate the toolbar you want. Press TAB until you activate the button you want, then ENTER to execute the command.

Activate the next or previous button or menu on the toolbar
